How to Change a Flat Tire near Cedar Rapids, IA

Gather Your Tools
If you get a flat tire on the way to Noelridge Park, safely pull over—ideally in a low-traffic, flat area. It’s at this point that you need to gather the tools you’ll need. You should keep an inflated spare tire, a jack, and a lug wrench in your Toyota Camry, RAV4, or Corolla at all times. These are the bare minimum essentials you’ll need on hand to complete the task. Optionally, it’s helpful to include wheel wedges, a portable tire inflator, and a tire pressure gauge. Oftentimes, you may need to adjust the spare’s pressure to match the recommendations in your Toyota model’s Owner’s Manual, so these additional items will likely come in handy.
Get Started
With your tools by your side, it’s time to get to work. Start by taking your lug wrench and loosening the lug nuts slightly but not all the way off. Next, you’ll want to place the jack in the designated area and then raise the car so that the tire is lifted off the ground. If you aren’t sure where to place the jack, consult your Owner’s Manual for guidance. Now is the time to fully remove the lug nuts and the tire. It’s important to note that you will need to buy a replacement tire for everyday use, as the spare is only designed to travel about 50 miles. After getting your spare sorted, you can come by our dealership to buy a new tire!
Finish Up
With the flat tire off, install the spare tire and tighten the lug nuts with your hands. Then, use the jack to slowly lower the car back onto the ground. You should then use the lug wrench to secure the nuts further. To ensure your spare is ready to hit the road, use the tire pressure gauge to reveal whether it’s fully inflated. If it’s not, use the portable tire inflator to get it up to standard. Once you do, you’ll be ready to start driving again. We recommend keeping the trips short and avoiding highways like I-380, since spares are generally not recommended to exceed over 50 MPH.
