Wiper Blade Information & Maintenance

Have you changed your wiper blades lately?

Wiper blades should be changed every 6 months to a year, unless you see a difference in your driving visibility. if your wiper blades are not making proper contact with the windshield, you will see and hear squeaking, chatter, skip, smear or streaking reducing your driving visibility.

Follow the list below for ultimate wiper maintenance:

  • What's a Broken frame - detachment of frame arms at joints or connection points.
  • Check for Metal Corrosion - especially at joints and claws.
  • Visible cracks, tears and chunks missing in the rubber squeegee's edge.
  • Test the rubber to check flexibility. Aged squeegees will have difficulty keeping the proper shape of your windshield and create streaks.
  • Check squeegee edge for rounding - this can prevent it from making correct contact with the windshield and reduce wipe quality.
  • Give a it a pull - ensure wiper blade has been securely installed on the wiper arm.
  • Check that squeegee is secure in the wiper frame.

Extend the life of your wiper blades by following these simple steps:

  1. Clean your windshield every time you fill your gas tank.
  2. Gently wipe the rubber squeegee with a damp paper towel to remove any loose dirt or oil.
  3. Never use your windshield wipers to de-ice your windshield. Instead, either use an ice scraper or use your defroster to melt snow and ice.
  4. Pull your wiper blades away from the windshield during winter months to prevent ice build up on the rubber squeegee and to prevent them from sticking to the windshield.
